Time management for teens is an important issue today. We expect our teens to be able to juggle all of the many activities that they are involved in without giving them the skills on how to do so. Perhaps that is becasue the adults do not know how either.

We know how children in the United States are encouraged to take many sports, music lessons, and other extra-curriculars. The parents spend their lives orgaizing their kids' calendars. Once the children decide what they want to keep and what they will stay with they are in their teenage years.

Tme management for teens becomes their concern. Like the parents, they want to do it all, often overwhelming themselves with so many committments that what usually becomes sacrificed is their academics. You have to show up to a game; you would be missed. But, if you don't always have to do your homework; you could go unnoticed in a classroom of 30 or more. Proper time management for teens is important if we expect them to place their academics first and their activites next.

Added to this mix is the all-important part-time job, a good idea to instill responsibility, money management, puntuality, etc. but what does it take away from? Again, if you are not there to close the pizza shop on a Tuesday night, you would be missed. You might get away with being drowsy and unalert during class. Time management for teens is especially important if one is considering a part-time job which sometimes becomes nearly a full-time job with 28-38 hours a week. Time management for teens during the summer is a different story.

Shall we add another ingredient? A boyfriend or girlfriend takes up a lot of time, even more than the collective number of friends a teen has. Yet, this type of development is important during these years. So, what is the solution? There is no time management for teens course in most schools.

Ironically enough, the best achievers in all areas have figured out the best time management for teens. They take care of the academics first, activities, job and social life next. What is left out? Free time. They have eliminated any time to be by themselves and time to think. Time management for teens like these is successful, but they may have to pay a price in the future. Could they become the unhappy workaholic executives without a family or the forty year olds who realized that they never did like their jobs iin the first place?

It would be sad, especially for someone who worked so hard, to have done everything right as far as time management for teens is concerned, only to realize too late that it was not the formula for happiness.
